Google Fiber Business: Where It Works and What It Actually Costs

Google Fiber Business has the cleanest bill in the industry. One line. One price. No fake fees.

The catch is where you can get it. About a dozen metros. That is it.

Here is what to know before you ask for a quote.

The pricing is what they say it is

Most carriers quote you one number and bill you another. The quote is $500. The bill is $612. The extra $112 is a stack of surcharges, recovery fees, and taxes that showed up after you signed.

Google Fiber does not do that. The number on the quote is the number on the bill. No Broadcast TV Surcharge. No Network Cost Recovery Fee. No PEG fee. Taxes are taxes, and that is it.

The public business tiers land around $100 a month for 1 Gig symmetric, $250 for 2 Gig, and higher tiers for 5 Gig and 8 Gig. Static IPs are included on business plans, usually one by default with more available. No annual contract required on the base tiers.

Compare that to a typical Comcast business quote in the same city. Same 1 Gig speed, quoted at $180, bills at $215 after fees, jumps to $260 in year two when the promo rolls off. Over 24 months you pay roughly $1,600 more with Comcast than with Google Fiber for the same speed.

Where it actually works

Google Fiber Business is live in these metros as of mid 2026:

A few more are in build phase. Even inside these cities, coverage is block by block. Your building either has it or it does not. There is no "we can trench to you" option for a single business address. If the fiber is not on your street, you are waiting.

The first thing to do is check the address at fiber.google.com. Do not trust a sales rep who says "we can probably get you connected." Either the pin shows service or it does not.

What it is good for

Google Fiber Business is a great fit if:

  • You have one office in a covered metro
  • You need symmetric speed for video calls, backups, or file transfer
  • You want a predictable monthly bill you can put in the budget and forget
  • You do not need an SLA with credits attached

It is not a fit if:

  • You need service in a building it does not reach (most buildings)
  • You need offices in several cities on one contract
  • You need a hard uptime SLA with financial credits, the kind Lumen or Crown Castle write
  • You need MPLS, SD-WAN, or private line service. Google Fiber is internet only.

The SLA question

This is where people trip up. Google Fiber Business has a service commitment, but it is not the same as a dedicated internet SLA from a commercial carrier. There is no guaranteed 99.99 percent uptime with credits per minute of outage. For a coffee shop or a small office, that is fine. For a call center or a trading desk, it is not.

If uptime is money, you want dedicated internet from a carrier that writes real credits into the contract. Google Fiber is not that product.

The move

If your address is covered and you do not need a hard SLA, get a Google Fiber quote and a Comcast quote. Bring both to the table. If Google Fiber comes in at $100 for 1 Gig symmetric with no fees, Comcast has to answer that. They will not match the price exactly, but they will move. A lot.

If your address is not covered, do not wait for it. The build timeline in a new city is measured in years, not months.
